Positive Effects of Massage for Chronic Low Back Pain

Two types of massage (structural and relaxation massage) were compared with usual care in 401 patients with chronic low back pain. Symptoms were less bothersome in both massage groups at 10 weeks compared to usual care and both types of massage had similar effects on function. Massage therapy may be effective for treatment of chronic back pain, with benefits lasting at least 6 months.
